How To Teach Bach Invention No.8

Today in our How To Teach Intermediate Piano Repertoire series we are looking at Bach’s Invention No.8 in F Major. I prefer to teach this as my student’s first invention, unless I feel Invention No.1 in C Major is more suitable.

The Bach Leveler - your guide to understanding the difficulty of Bach’s pieces for piano students.

This Invention and the other 14 are featured on my new resource - a spreadsheet of over 80 pieces written by Johann Sebastian Bach (or found within his Notebooks) that are standard pre-college or amateur repertoire.

Out of my years of experience teaching Bach to pre-college students, I have developed a grouping system to help you see where each piece fits within the range of his output, and the stage at which it is appropriate to introduce each piece to your students. Check it out here!
