How To Ensure Your Student is Ready for a Performance

Welcome, teachers! I have a brand new course titled Preparing Confident Performers for piano teachers, all about preparing our students for performance and creating a healthy, positive performance culture in our studios. ⤵️

To that end, I have six things I do every time I help a student prepare for a recital, exam, festival, competition, or any other performance, no matter how formal or informal it is. These Six Tips are just a taste of what is included in my comprehensive course - click the photo above to find out what other topics are covered.

Click any of these titles to read more in depth, or watch the video below to hear me discuss all six:

  1. Choose appropriate repertoire,

  2. Allow enough time for preparation,

  3. Solve any technical problems within the piece,

  4. Facilitate the student's emotional connection to the piece so that he can play expressively,

  5. Develop a healthy mindset for performance, and

  6. Have the student practice performing.

In each of my YouTube videos on my How To Teach Intermediate Repertoire playlist, I try to help other teachers with #3 and #4 on the list above: solving technical problems and facilitating a student's emotional connection. If you haven’t checked it out, click the image below to see all of the videos in the playlist. There’s something from every historical time period with pieces ranging from early intermediate to late intermediate - there are over 30 videos in the playlist now! (Thank you to all of you who have watched my videos and subscribed to my channel!)
