We Are All In This Together

I didn’t create a How To Teach video this week. Actually, I did, but my phone decided not to save the video after I spent 11 minutes talking to it. (My storage was full. I have since taken several minutes to clear things up so that won’t happen again any time soon!) The other reason was that preparing for this was how I spent my time this week:

My lovely local Music Teachers Association is putting on our Achievement in Music Performance Exams in a month. I volunteered to hold the 2-year job of coordinator back in the spring of 2019. I did not sign up for running exams in a pandemic! It has been challenging, to say the least, to come up with effective ways to keep our program running this year. I’m thrilled to say that thanks to Lynette Zelis, our theory exams went off without a hitch in the fall, and I have great hope that our performance exams will have the same result in March.

I will sum up here by using all of the best 2020 catch phrases: We are literally all in this together in this screenshot. We also are all in this together as we prepare our students and create a positive exam experience for them, since we all volunteer as judges for each others’ students. On a grander scheme, the worldwide community of music teachers has shown such solidarity, now more than ever. I am grateful to work amidst a local and global community of people who have adapted, shown great creativity, and supported one another in these unprecedented times.
